Description
Now that's really something unusual from the late Big John! According to the HA auctions ad was this page inked by his granddaughter Stephanie. From one of the very few works that were not for Marvel and this would have been his 4th work on Superman since the late 1970s (S-Man + Spiderman 2 Treasury Ed.). John took over art duties for Gil Kane (after his passing), on the graphic novel “Superman: Blood of My Ancestors” (inked by Kevin Nowlan), a story centered around the released hereditary memories of Superman about the first “House of El” on Krypton 500,000 years ago. After finishing that story, Buscema signed on for a 5-issue miniseries with longtime collaborateur and favorite writer Roy Thomas titled “JLA: Barbarians” for a 2002-release. Sadly, while working on the first issue, he passed away on January 10. in 2002 and the story went unpublished. A weird mix between Superman and Conan, I especially love the classic “bullet proof” panel in the best Man of Steel tradition ! Look up my other John Buscema pages if you like what you see here !

By Crom and Rao, this is an awesome page. I had never even heard of the concept. Man, he was just so great right up to the end. I really dig that his granddaughter inked the page, too. Very cool find. Congrats!

One of the great "might have beens" of comic book history.  Big John had it until the end, and I'm sure we all would have loved to have seen what he might have done with DC's characters had he lived.
