Description
Adam, Prince of Eternia, defender of the secrets of Castle Grayskull. So many titles, but this character is more widely known by one mantle: He-Man. The Most Powerful Man In The Universe. To celebrate Masters of The Universe: Revelation - Kevin Smith's remarkable Netflix sequel to the original Filmation cartoon series - I have taken it upon myself to develop a line of pieces based on this radical new designs. Etched on 11 x 17" 98 lb Canson paper with mixed media, this is a labor of love for this 41-year-old who raised his plastic gold sword at the same time as Prince Adam every episode. As opposed to it being an action shot, I wanted to harken back to yesterday and tap into fans' memories. This magic mirror and this hot pink brick wall was inspired by "The Origin of The Sorceress," during which The Sorceress of Grayskull created this mirror to convey her tale to He-Man as they awaited the arrival of Morgoth, The Sorceress's first enemy. To show the passage of time, I aged everything up, from the now-splintered frame to the cracks in the wall. Labor intensive but still worth the effort. The grimace on his face is an homage to the original visage Roger Sweet put on the first line of toys back in 1982. I chose the most obvious background for He-Man in the mirror and distinguished it by the lack of micron inks; the jaw bridge is outlined with copic and Prismacolor pencils alone. I have to saw that I love the new design of the Sword of Power. I had thought about crackling energy from it but I reconsidered. Less is more. I'm dedicating this first of a lengthy line of sketches to the memory of my late grandmother, Nora Marsh, who recently passed away this past Saturday July 24, 2021. Nana, this one's for you. By The Power of Grayskull...I HAVE THE POWER!!!!!
