DescriptionThis is the Italian version (which was ultimately not used) of the (almost identical) European movie poster for the 1985 Disney movie “The Black Cauldron”, by the Italian illustrator Bruno Napoli. I loved this movie as a kid (it was called “Taran und der Zauberkessel” in Germany), so I’m more than happy to add this stunning original to my collection… :-))Napoli was Disney’s primary illustrator for their European movie posters from the late 1960’s to the 1980’s. In many cases he would do several (almost identical) versions of a poster, which were then used in different countries (or at least a European and an Italian version). This artwork was supposed to be for the Italian “The Black Cauldron” movie poster, but for some unknown reason the European version was also used in Italy. Although not previously published, this might be the only surviving artwork of this beautiful motif. Social/Sharing |

A great deal of elements are working together in this piece to make it grand enough for a major Disney release. Even in Disney's Dark Age/Bronze Age, the top talent found their way to do pieces like this to bring the spirit of the movie to large print to show the magic of the house.

Grail & goals! I think a true sign of a bona fide art collection is the presence of a Disney poster original! Congrats on this one of what's inarguably one of the most underappreciated tales in Disney history!

Bruno was one of my friends, our studios was at a couple of kilometer of distance, unfortunately he leaved all of us too soon, NOBODY will bring to us another talented artist as him.
