Mort Walker was one of the earliest to call for illustrations, cartooning, comic strips, and comic book art to be considered an artform worthy to be put into museums as far back as 1974 with the National Cartoon Museum. His clout as the Beetle Bailey artist was instrumental in getting it started. It eventually merged with the Billy Ireland library and museum that survives to this day.
