Did I ever tell you how much I like Gene Colan?

I think even among his peers and contemporaries, his style was just something else. It can be cinematic when it needs to be or more like an image spilling out of a novel. Having talent like Al Williamson to ink for you also doesn't hurt.

Faces and expressions are truly an incredible emotive device. It may not always be of particular focus when describing his work but he can really put a lot of care and craft into it. So thanks Gene

Inks by Williamson give these scenes more detailed linework and less solid shadows.   We could see the energy of this combination in the opening page.  Cinematic layouts using levels of depth and swirling spirits.

Fabulous page! 'Cinematic' is right. Colan mixes '50s glamour and gothic horror imagery with such ease, producing fluid dreamscapes - so evident on this page!
