Description
A while ago I wrote Morrie Turner to stress my appreciation for his work and how I believe he is pioneer. To my surprise Mr. Turner wrote me back (wishing me good luck in law school) and sent me and original Wee Pals strip. I am honored and awestruck. About Wee Pals itself: Wee Pals was created in 1965 and is the first syndicated comic strip to feature minority figures. Turner was inspired to create Wee Pals by his mentor Charles Schultz (of Peanuts fame). Wee Pals shows a world without prejudice and racial barriers. Nipper the character in the letter is actually Turner himself (hence him talking to me inside the letter). Wee Pals helped pave the way for future strips, such as Curtis and The Boondocks, that feature minority lead characters.
