Description
About 10 years ago now, I decided wanted to get back into comics after having not read much since I was a kid. My brother and a few friends were reading current books, but I had no idea where to start. A good friend of mine suggested I pick up the trades for the Ed Brubaker/Steve Epting Captain America run. My first thought, as someone in my mid 20’s playing in punk bands was “really? Captain America?” I picked up the trades, against my initial instinct and boy was I glad I ignored my gut on this one. Brubaker is still one of my favorite writers. Everything he does sucks me right in. Steve Epting’s art in this book is next level, not the over the top Captain America art I remember seeing on covers as a kid in the 90’s. Epting brings a serious, realistic approach to Steve Rogers and the Marvel universe that isn’t seen often. My collection thus far has been pretty devoid of nostalgia, but I think this piece can go into that category while also being something that I consider to be great art. I’m really excited to add a piece from the book that brought me down the rabbit hole of comics once again.

Crossbones and Cap!  Great action page with an amazing setting working the plan to create a memorably intriguing Cap saga.

There may be nothing less punk than corny old Captain America! Great re-entry story and congrats on the nostalgia capture.

Nice use of black to represent 3 dimensional space throughout the page. The top panel is killer, I love the Z!
