Austin Briggs - Flash Gordon Sunday Comic Strip Original 6-22-1947.

Hall-of-fame illustrator Briggs came as close to the master Alex Raymond as anyone could with his work on Flash Gordon. I love this piece of Gordon from the golden age.

Quando Raymond fu chiamato per la guerra, il suo Flash Gordon passò nelle mani dell'illustratore Austin Briggs che si è avvicinato il più possibile al suo maestro. Austin Briggs ha iniziato la sua carriera nel fumetto come assistente di Alex Raymond nel 1936. Dal 1940 al maggio 1944 ha illustrato in modo anonimo le strisce giornaliere di Flash Gordon e successivamente, tra il 1944 e il 1948, realizzò anche le pagine domenicali.
Ha lasciato i fumetti nel 1948 per concentrarsi sul suo lavoro di illustrazione. È stato uno dei fondatori della Famous Artists School di Westport, nel Connecticut, e membro della Society of Illustrator's Hall of Fame.

Wow! Il tratto di Briggs è tra i piu' fedeli al maestro Raymond. In questa tavola i riquadri centrali sia in alto che in basso, li trovo spettacolari!
