Tom and Jerry "Sleepy-Time Tom" animation story drawings in sequence, 1951

These four animation sheets of original cartoon story drawings of Tom and Jerry, plus Mammy Two-Shoes, were created by co-director Joe Barbera in development of fifteen scenes in the animated Tom and Jerry cartoon. Joe Barbera drew the sketches as he and co-director Bill Hanna developed the story in their years of directing the award-winning cartoon series at MGM from 1940 to 1957.

In this cartoon Tom comes in from a night on the town and wants only to sleep away the day. Mammy Two-Shoes has other plans, and she tells "Mr. Playboy" that he is to stay awake and keep "that mouse out of the refrigerator." In these scenes Tom has Jerry in his paws but slips away into sleep until he realizes he is resting his head on one of Mammy Two-Shoes' slippers (the other foot is tapping impatiently).

Joe Barbera wrote brief descriptions of the scenes and instructions for the animators on the sheets and numbered them "41", "42", "43" and "44" at lower right.
