DescriptionI've written before of the nostalgic feels from old Wizards and of course Bart Sears's work (anyone else remember trying to draw from his Brute and Babe tutorials?). So of course, had to snag this cover with Bats from an issue that I remember getting from the old LCS when I was a young one.Look at all them muscles on Bats. Clearly not neglecting rotating muscle groups in the bat-gym. I believe back then in the early days, it was a requirement to have the ol' Wizard hat on the cover. Not sure if this is the most creative way to place it but hey, it was approved, right? Social/Sharing |

A glorious reminder of what fandom was like before the dawn of the Internet as Wizard was just finding its voice and ready to take their chance at going at it as a full color magazine. These showcase covers commissioned by Wizard from Sears certainly helped to build sales and turn the magazine into the Bible of comicdom just as Image and other imprints were taking the industry by storm.

I also fondly remember the days of Wizard and Bart Sears. Seems to me that he drew a few covers that his contract didn't allow and it was credited to a ghost-artist. Great pick up!

Wow, 30 years old. Great Batman and great cover. Saw that was also sold back in 2013 at Heritage From the Shamus Modern Masterworks Collection, like my Witchblade study pages. Great pick up.

Thanks for the explanation, I admit to at first being confused by the hat. But otherwise Sears had done a good job of presenting a formidable Batman. Congrats.

yup! at some point they removed that as a requirement for the covers - not sure when, but the wizard hat motif did not last long lol

Yup, remember this one clearly! Wizard #4. And yes, tugs on both the art and nostalgia strings perfectly! Congrats!
