DescriptionAn up and coming comic book writer recently tweeted about how they desperately need help writing fights. I remembered this sequence I had picked up for exactly this reason, so here you are.In fact, A LOT of The Batman's Grave is straight up brawling. Because Bryan Hitch is a professional, he uses that as an opportunity to make his life harder. Fighting in the street is one thing, but multiple figures duking it out in a midtown apartment is a whole different stratosphere. Over the sequence we see great use of contrast and textures, and architecturally he has constructed a space and stayed strictly within it. The fighting is choreographed wonderfully. Ouch. I would have purchased this issue complete but SOMEBODY purchased all the covers from Bryan when the project was announced. Although I'm told that deal later fell through. Social/Sharing |

An EXCELLENT choice of examples to post from this book, M L (and I did get a little shock of excitement wondering if you were going to post the full issue... :) ). The fight scenes in this book certainly felt WAY more real, intense, and gritty than "normal" comic books because of Bryan's strict adherence to the rules set down (be they anatomical or spatial), and this scene was the best of the run, imho... After first reading this issue at a breakneck pace, I needed to go back and spend some time with this scene to further explore everything that Hitchy had put into it, and it is stunning. Beautiful backgrounds, characters, and staging. Such a GREAT example from this run - congrats!

Fight sequences hard? Sure doesn't look like it here. Hitch's Ultimates made widescreen action and spectacle magic. This Batman sequence is IMAX level.

yo that is gnarly!!!! epic sequence. congrats!!
This makes me want to circle back and finish reading the run, prob best for a binge read cause I was picking it up single issue style at the beginning then fell off.

Thanks! I'm also really struggling with these 12 part maxi series. Rorschach, Strange Adventures, and Batman's Grave I started reading with release but dropped off and ended up finishing in a binge. It's almost more economical to just wait for the app.

Super page! That middle panel is so arresting and atmospheric, sandwitched as it is between two bright and equally dynamic images. Great composition and choreography

That's a great sequence! The middle panel is perfect with just the shadow. Then the second fight page with the legendary Hitch Kick and at the last two panels the final confrontation. Great pick up!
I was able to pick two covers from this run, after the was finally available.

That middle panel is moody as hell!! Love how you're constantly switching up your featured pieces, helps showcase new pieces to look at!
