DescriptionOh yeah, he's the collector with the 2 minor McFarlanes. *Update 2022 - and then he sold one of them!*I'm more than happy with that! It's not a grail, but it's definitely a keeper. After somehow scoring an all McFarlane ASM by sheer luck early in my collecting, I resigned myself to that being the only example of the Toddmeister's work that I would ever have. Which is a shame, because Todd was the first artist whose work shone a light in my brain that illuminated the fact that 'HEY, someONE actually drew this stuff, and it's INCREDIBLE, so you should know who that is!' I had this trade and I read it A LOT. Todd started taking over art duties after the first issue - all 3 covers are a fist to the face. However this issue is the only one that he inked himself. Just outstanding. What did I love most? The capes. And between the Reaper and Bats, there was plenty of cape goodness. Todd used the cape like a classic magician - to embellish, flourish, misdirect, and astonish. Did he get carried away sometimes? Sure, but it was SUCH a breathe of fresh air and an artistic stand-out to a young me. So it was always very important to me that an example from this run have, of course, a cape. The third panel is pretty incredible too. Artistically compelling but also, JOE CHILL!!! Yes, they removed most of this from continuity, but at the time this was (is?) Joe's 'Death Issue'. So, no Bats, but color me over the moon, and I will argue the artistic merits of this page all day long. The blacks are nice and deep, and I always love having the letters directly on the page. This time by TODD SQUARED no less, the immortal Todd Klein! I really could ramble on forever, but the kids will be up soon and I MUST thank the gentleman on CAF who let this page go. We arranged a trade that I think everyone is very happy with, it took weeks, if not months, and the whole event was wrapped in a congenial and informative chat format that I'm sure will lead to a new Friend IRL. No pressure and all fun. Thanks very much sir! CAF is Life! *Update 2022 - having this piece is what allowed me to let go of the ASM page, which in turn got me something else. The circle of life.* Social/Sharing |

I absolutely love when Todd got carried away artistically on the page. His style was what brought me back to comics after a hiatus and is a strong secondary wave of nostalgia for me. This Tec run was so good and visually appealing. Major congrats on a great deal that landed this gem in your gallery. Thanks for sharing!

Jeeper's Creepers, where'd you get this Reaper? This series changed the trajectory of McFarlane's career as he was hidden in the direct only Infinity Inc. and wanted to break into the bigger titles at this point of his career. You can tell he would use all the tricks in his bag to reinvent the wheel.

Congrats on aquiring this! Regarding Joe Chill, whatever is in print first is what REALLY happened. All you have to do is ignore everything that happened to him later. As far as I'm concerned, Wolverine is still the cool, mysterious Canadian with retractable claws that nobody knows the origin of, not even him. Great stuff, man!

I love everything about this page! Early work by the Todd, classic "Year Two" story featuring The Reaper AND Joe Chill, major nostalgia, on and on... This story not only brought back Joe Chill (*spoiler: just to kill him off), but it also featured Batman with a gun and crazed with the notion of vengeance. McFarlane's cape work on both Batman and The Reaper shows us where he would eventually take himself with the creation of Spawn. Perhaps no Batman on this page, but it is still a beautiful example from a historic storyline and one of the few (3) Batman issues that McFarlane ever worked on (until the Spawn/Batman crossover). Love it!

It's neat how the character of Joey looks remarkably like some big name spidey artist from Canada. This page is a great representation of the era. All the little scratches, smoke and billowing fabric. Love the description too! Congrats ML

Except for that third panel, the backgrounds on this page are incredible!

Shades of his McFuture. That snaking smoke looks a lot like a certain arachnids webbing, and that billowing cloak sure looks familiar. I love early works from amazing artists, where you can see it all come together. Super sweet score. Congrats!
