Where Monsters Dwell #2 pg 20

While not the most famous collaboration between Russ Braun and Garth Ennis, I find Where Monsters Dwell to be a fun and bawdy sendup of masculinity. Braun is a dynamite storyteller, and I had the good fortune to chat with him about the book and pick up this page at the recent Baltimore Comicon.

A master of facial expressions, Braun's talents are on full display here as the despicable main character comes to a realization that the woman he is escorting isn't who he thought she was. Pulling back the camera in the final panel is an inspired choice to capture the moment he figures it out. Framed beautifully between the spear, it simultaneously emphasizes his dawning awareness and her feigned innocence.
