Although you mention the beginning of the art days of Christmas, this was clearly after round eight! Cake break!
A fitting gift from Lance, since he and I are in the same age bracket. There's definitely a love/hate relationship with artwork that ages me. So many great memories of Charley & Humphrey, Pat McCormick, and DIaling For Dollars. Those are some old school memories for sure. I have a Charley & Humphrey T-shirt, but this drawing is so much cooler. Congrats on the nice gift. Good to see someone playing Santa for you for a change.
There is no other cake worthy of eating aside from cheesecake. Please tell m that's what that is. I just had 3 slices of it today myself! Mmmmm.....cheesecake....

CAF is veined with nostalgia so I guess I shouldn't have been so blindsided, but I was gobsmacked to find Charley & Humphrey waiting in my daily CAF alert. I thoroughly enjoyed those spots on KTVU back in the day and this drawing is superb!
This post inspires me to ask if anyone else watching local access NorCal TV back in the early 70s (or late 60s...?) might recall a how-to-draw show with a pretty senior guy teaching the basics about perspective, shading, etc. and it opened and ended with the camera panning by a drawing of an alien city with soft incidental music; the ultimate test for children watching the show was to draw their own alien city. This angle was later "borrowed" by "Comander Mark" on a PBS show called "Secret City" that aired a couple decades later, but I'd love to get any info any of you may have about the original program. I can't find hide nor hair of that old program anywhere...

I was just lamenting the other day that the stuff my kids watch offer no lessons even at the tail end of the shows (because knowing truly was half the battle). We need more Charley & Humphrey now!
