DescriptionAnother nostalgic home run here…. If you watched the Caf special on the greatest X-men artists of all time you may have heard me say when Alan Davis was brought up , that he is one of my favorite artists but I think of him for Excalibur and not Xmen.. Well here is a Doozy of an add for me.. a page from the First issue of Excalibur that does a great job of Capturing the magic Claremont Davis and Neary were about to create.. When this book came out back in 1988 the X-men were coming out of some of there darkest times (and stories if you remember late 80s comics) on the heels of the mutant Massacre story line some of our most beloved X-men were left badly injured and out of action . Nightcrawler Colossus and Kitty nearly died during that arc and although Colossus made it back to the X-men just in time for another Dark storyline, the fall of the mutants, where the X-men to the world at large all died.. Nightcrawler and Shadowcat were left to mourn there friends … and carry on the dream. So they teamed up with another MIA friend Rachel Phoenix and Captain Britain and Megan to form an England based X-men team of sorts Excalibur!! The beauty of this book at the time, was the light hearted nature and fun whimsical storylines. A refreshing difference from the normal X Fair at the time! Davis’ take on this group of mutants stands up as some of the greatest art for these particular characters!Social/Sharing |

Beautiful page: the art, the inking , the storytelling and dialogue...everything works perfectly. And that bottom panel ...

A page from Excalibur #1, fantastic find!!! I really enjoyed the Davis and Claremont pairing, it wasn't as serious but still had lots of heart. Great start to a fun X Title that has had a lot of iterations.

I know that there are alwasy debates, but for me Davis with Neary is easily the best combination, one of my favorite series of all time and what a great page

I loved the art in this series so much - my introduction to Alan Davis. I started buying these new with this issue and I can't remember how many issues I had before I even read anything - I was so busy soaking up all the art. Great first issue page - congrats Jay! Thanks for sharing!

Dude!! Outstanding!! One of the best pages from a book full of awesome pages! Issue 1, too. Whew. JELLY Over here. Love the content, art and dialogue, top to bottom. Whew. OK, I guess I'm done :) Congrats!
