Description
Thunderbird the forgotten new X-man! John Proudstar was always a character that fascinated me … I think the earliest recollection of him I have is from the old Spiderman and his Amazing friends cartoon when I was a kid. I remember always wondering about him when I started reading the X-men comics not knowing he was killed off so many years before my dive into comics until later. When I caught up on his story with classic X-men it caught me even more. What a great but tragic character … I understand the redundancy of him and Wolverine but always wondered what could have been! Really happy I was able to snag this fantastic rendering by Paul Smith as I had never seen his version of the character before.

I for one didn't see redundancy as they could have introduced things like the Demon Bear saga many years earlier with him.  If anything, he was ahead of his time.  It's a great character design by Cockrum that is pure 70's cool.  Paul Smith does a great job making his look dynamic and heroic in full sprint towards us asking us to call that telephone number to save him.  Oh, wait, he wasn't even given that courtesy.

X-cited to see what they do with him in the current series, great PS commission.

I also first saw him in the Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends cartoon, so I was disappointed when I found out that in the comics he couldn't turn into a bear.  Maybe if they gave him bear powers in Giant-Sized X-Men #1, they could have kept him around?  At any rate, killing him off gave us countless moments of Professor X guilt for decades to follow.  PMS does his usual amazing work here.

Ooh, loving seeing Native characters get some play!  Just gotta love Thunderbird's design, particularly here when given the Paul Smith treatment!  His lines are sublime, and I dig the choice of the charging pose.  Congrats, Jason!

thunderbird was my favorite new Xman. the over all costume design was fantasic. I hated the fact that they killed him off in such a sensless way in issue 95. I think he could have played off against Wolverine just like Hawkman and Green  Arrow did. He had to much of a back story to be told to waste him the way they did.
