Description
Another Windy City Pulp and Paper Convention find, this very nice Michael Whelan cover prelim for "Foundation and Earth" by Isaac Asimov. Paperback edition published by Ballantine Books in 1987. See the additional image for the changes made by Whelan between the prelim and the final cover.

Great imaginative piece that encapsulates the larger ideas and concepts of the novel and series.

Very nice prelim!  I actually think it is a stronger image than the final cover.  I suspect Whelan got "art directed" ; )

That's quite a "prelim." I like it better than the final cover, even if I understand why they went with that one. It works better with the final design with the title. But yours has more of that sci-fi whimsy I want to see with an Asomov cover. Beautiful piece. Congrats!
