Description

Despite reaching out prior to Lake Como Comic Art Festival 2022, I couldn't get a spot on the pre-con commission list of Jorgé Fornes (Rorschach, Batman, Daredevil). Sometimes you're just a tad bit too slow on the draw.

But I've been loving his work, reminiscent of Mazzucchelli in the best kind of way, yet with his own distinct take on it. That's why Batman would be my pick, instead of Daredevil or Rorschach. We talked a bit about his work, but when asking about a commission, Jorgé told me to talk to his rep at a different table. He was kind enough to get up from his table and walk me there. And then I was set.

When returning an hour or so later to check if everything was fine, Jorgé was working on a great Batman piece. I approached him & mentioned that if mine would be something like that, that'd be more than perfect. He laughed and told me that piece was mine.

About this commission - I'm in love with the confident lines; the folds & movement in the cape that the right arm creates; the symmetry on the page with the bottom being so black, while the top is still white; and of course the subtle, but effective negative spacing on the cape.

This is THE Jorgé Fornes Batman I wanted. Size is 9x12.

Strong Mazzuchelli vibe, but yes, still Fornes! Love how the cape's done. Congrats!
