Description
Hawkman and Hawkgirl visit Rann in order to lend a hand to Adam Strange and local family...

What has always struck me in Murphy Anderson's art is that, whatever the situation, everything appears to be so serene. The level of calm permeates not only each character, but is also evident in the background, where every element is carefully placed and perfectly clean. Even the pacing of the story and the choice of the angles contribute to the general ambiance. It's only when you get to its wild haircut in the last panel that you notice there is something awkward with the mad scientist (an impression duly confirmed by his rantings...), but, even then, Sardath talks about him gently enough by mentioning his "marvelous inventions". What a bunch of nice guys!

Oh, well! This certainly is typical of early-60's DC, but it's still so much fun to read... And so much great art to appreciate!

This page is a fine example of that classic DC Silver Age look.

These twice up pages are hard to come by these days and this one is a classic featuring a cross over. Congratulations!

DC Mystery in Space and Hawkman were two of my favorite 60's books to flip through and experience. Murphy Anderson has ascended to a level of reverence that will only continue to trajectory upwards from our admiration.

Thanks Michael! DC Comics created a quiet revolution by gradually growing up from their usual diet of child-oriented titles to more accomplished stories and themes. Murphy Anderson, Carmine Infantino, Gil Kane (and a lot of others) were the subtle illustrators of that artistic shift. Looking back today on their achievements is a real pleasure!

Quintessential Murphy Anderson page! Beautifully composed, precisely staged and elegantly inked. I especially love that second panel with the full figures of Hawkman and Hawkgirl, the mad scientist and the elaborate scientific gear. Congrats on a great pick-up!

Thanks Bill! Classic as can be, but when it's so beautifully rendered, who could complain? Not me, for sure!...
