Description
It's probably true that Clash of the Titans is dated and cheesy and was probably dated and cheesy even in 1981. I just loved it as a kid though and all the Harryhausen stop-motion creatures. These films I got to see over and over predict more about my collection now than any comics I read at the time. All those sword-fighting skellies and gorgons. Andrew was such a great choice for this. When he posted this one on social media, he said that this movie was a huge influence on him making Head Lopper which makes perfect sense since it's probably why I read it too!

I love me some old school Clash; I had the Perseus action figure with the gold sword and shield. I had the best second grade teacher who taught us from D'Aulaires' Book of Greek Myth. That movie hit at exactly the same time so that's why it made such a big impression on me. Andrew was a great choice! I love how his style has evolved and how he experiments in creating layers of shade via different means. In case it is a very consistent system of lines. His composition keeps getting better. Lucky!

So lucky! And you're lucky too having had the action figure!

Such a perfect subject for Andrew's artistic style! Looks like he had a lot of fun with it too.

A nice revisit of an all time classic on the big and small screen.  This movie was a reward for all the A and B students who got a ticket to the theater to watch this with Popeye on a Saturday matinee.  All the thrills and chills for just the right mindset of carefree youth.

McLean really squeezed everything that was memorable in the original Clash of the Titans into this commission. Okay, maybe there's no Calibos but where would he have gone?!  Big congrats on an amazing commission request that McLean really delivered on.

Thanks, I agree he delivered beyond my expectations. He couldn't have fitted any more characters in!

This really does fit Maclean's style extremely well and he packs so much into it. Big congrats to you Reba!

That's an inspired piece!  Loved seeing this in the theater back in the day.  Such a unique vision MacLean has.  Despite all theat's going on in this scene, it reads perfectly.  That Medusa head is too good

Thanks! I saw it at the theatre with complete suspension of disbelief. I'm very glad he included Medusa. I also have the Head Lopper page where Andrew recreated that scene with the Kraken...

What a perfect pairing between creator and subject. Clash of the Titans totally captivated me as a child too, and had to be a reason why I've always loved a good hero's quest. Oh, by the way, MacLean killed this.

Absolutely stunning scene from 1981: Clash of the Titans! Gorgeous drawing by Andrew MacLean! I love the exuberance of his style--It's perfect for this subject matter! Congrats!
