The Siren's Song
Panel 1: Curiously, it was around this time that the Soviet delegation began to suggest a negotiated settlement featuring Korea-wide free elections.
Panel 2: The ROK (Republic of Korea) pushed ahead, more determined than ever to wipe out the rest of the NKPA (North Korean Peoples Army). But the capture of more and more Chinese resulted in a change of attitude.
Panel 3: And they were coming! 300,000 of them! They didn't have trucks. They were coming on foot, by night, hiding during the day from UN aircraft. They had little artillery and no tanks. Each man carried his weapons and ammo, and enough cooked rice to last five days. He wore a padded winter uniform over his summer uniform. He wore rubber and canvas shoes, but had no gloves. He didn't have the warm clothing and first class equipment his opponents had, but that didn't matter. Behind every Chinese soldier were hundreds and hundreds more!
Panel 4: On October 25, the ROK 1st Division, supported by Patton tanks of the 6th Tank Battalion, unwittingly drove right into the middle of the 30,000 man Chinese Communist Forces (CCF) 39th Army.
