CLICK HERE FOR AUCTION LISTING!17.75x20" Bainbridge Illustration Board has mixed media original art w/image area measuring 15-5/8x17.25". Art is by Shary Flenniken, an editor-writer-illustrator and underground cartoonist who became a prominent contributor to National Lampoon after joining the burgeoning Underground Comix movement in the early 1970s, serving as one of the editors of the magazine for two years. Flenniken also once dated Charles Lippincott, the man responsible for making Star Wars the pop culture juggernaut it is today. This art was created by Flenniken and re-imagines the climatic battle at the end of Star Wars, w/X-Wing and TIE Fighter pursuing one another down a different type of alley, this one composed of apartment buildings instead of the Death Star. A woman yells at the passing ships as they disturb lines of drying laundry. Flenniken has signed in black felt tip pen at lower right, adding "2/84" date and "The Slums Of Space" at bottom left. Art was gifted from her to Lippincott at that time. Artboard has some corner tip wear but art is protected by vellum overlay attached at top. Art could be matted and framed for Exc. display. Charles Lippincott Collection.
