I like how melodramatic the reactions are to sell to the audience how scary Chemistro is as a threat! The power lines showing his explosive entrance also bring him on a higher level of danger.
Yup, he was a theat. So much of a threat that he even destroyed his own foot!
Chemistro is a great comic book character name, and the costume design and color scheme are pretty cool. A fun page all around.
Thanks! I do love all the action and menace being displayed all around.
Chemistro!!!! Memories,memories, memories..
Hopefully good memories!
Oh yes!! I'm '70 guy!! Thanks for sharing.
Awesome! Great to hear! I'm glad you enjoyed looking at my page and thank you for leaving a comment!
Cool villain!!! And a first appearance!
Thanks! It's got everything I want in a comic page: large art panels, the villain as the focus, action-packed and a name drop. The fact that it comes from his first appearance issue is an extra special added touch...
That's a beautiful top panel. Billy Graham did a great job inking the lines here for an energetic page caused by a...chemical reaction???
I think it's more of a Kool-Aid homage: "Oh, yeah!"
Lol Whatta sugar rush!
You had me at 'Chemistro'. It's like they needed a name fast.. and Chemistro was born. Lovely action filled page!
Thanks! As for the "Chemistro" name choice, I believe their first choice was Beaker but it was may have already been taken...
Beaker is a famous muppets character..
Ah, I guess that's why Marvel couldn't use the name!
Way to make an entrance! Killer top panel and a worthy add to the lesser-know-villain collection, man! CHEMISTRO. Congrats!
Thanks, K! Slowly but surely the Obscure Legion Collection is growing!
Graham's inks made everything better.
Indeed! His inks on this page are great.
Classic 1970's comic page from Luke Cage, Hero for Hire,. This is a terrific page, penciled by the talented Geore Tuska. But what makes it really significant is that it was inked by Billy Graham, the first Black artist on Marvel's staff! Billy Graham was hired in part to help give Luke Cage, a black superhero, some authenticity. Graham grew up in Harlem and worked on Luke Cage starting with issue one. After working on Luke Cage for several years, Graham went on to help develop the Black Panther as a character. He really broke through the color barrier at Marvel at a critical time for the company. So that page you've got there represents an important moment in the history of Marvel comics.
I was unaware of this information! I liked it because of the supervillain aspect of Chemistro but now I have an extra sense of appreciation. Thank you!
The old villain-hiding-in-a-statue trick! A superb page! Tuska and Graham combined so well on that title, and the opening panel is so dynamic. I love the way the characters' ties add so much to the sense of movement.
It was definitely a good thing that he didn't run out of air being stuck inside that statue before he busted out!
