Description
D.C. Comics. November, 1997.

This Scooby-Doo series, put out by D.C. Comics in 1997, was the first comic book I had a subscription to. It ran for 157 issues and is the longest running Scooby-Doo title ever published. Joe Staton's lengthy stint as cover artist started with this very issue. His inking is crisp and clean and there's not a drop of white out to be found on the page. I was turning 7 when this issue was on the stands which makes this piece hit the nostalgic sweet spot. I'd love to find the covers to issues 1 & 2!

I created archival stats on an overlay to give the piece it's published context.

Nice!  First comic you subscribed to and you got your cover!  Nice pure illustratio, and just flat out FUN.  Good job on the overlay, too.  Congrats!

The DC checkerboard tradition lives on!  The overlay in b&w is makes more sense for this than the published colors.  Staton's art takes animated properties to capture just the key static scenes.

Staton was the perfect artist for Scooby-Doo, and this is a sensational example of his work.

Joe Staton is the master of the slick, fluid line. And he turns his hand here to a fabulous job on Scooby Doo! Nice pick-up, and great to read the background story to why it means so much to you.
