Description
Oil on Panel 30x37 framed to 39x46.

Published as the cover to the Science Fiction Book Club's hardback edition of the Hobbit in 2000.

I was recently having a conversation with another collector and told them that my days of actively collecting were winding down but that I always kind of wanted a cover to the Hobbit.

Later that same day this massive, glorious example by one of my favorite artists popped up for sale... kismet?

The glow from the gold makes Smaug look even more magnificent of a creature nesting and lording over it.

Awesome! What a classic painting of Smaug! Gorgeous work by Donato Giancola! I love everything about this, from the towering pillars of the hall to the glistening gold of the treasure below. This is just Epic!
