DescriptionOil on Panel 30x37 framed to 39x46.Published as the cover to the Science Fiction Book Club's hardback edition of the Hobbit in 2000. I was recently having a conversation with another collector and told them that my days of actively collecting were winding down but that I always kind of wanted a cover to the Hobbit. Later that same day this massive, glorious example by one of my favorite artists popped up for sale... kismet? Social/Sharing |

The glow from the gold makes Smaug look even more magnificent of a creature nesting and lording over it.

Awesome! What a classic painting of Smaug! Gorgeous work by Donato Giancola! I love everything about this, from the towering pillars of the hall to the glistening gold of the treasure below. This is just Epic!
