Description"What do I love most about being here at Marvel? It's the interesting people you get to work with."As a lifelong John Byrne fan, this piece has always held a special place in my heart because of its significance as a representation of his remarkable body of work in the Marvel Universe This piece appeared as the Bullpen Bulletins page in the comics that Marvel published with a September 1983 cover date, which would have been released in May of that year. Byrne was at the top of his game artistically and commercially following his definitive runs on Avengers, Captain America, Iron Fist, Marvel Team-Up, Uncanny X-Men, etc. and he was continuing to grow in popularity. He was also operating at peak capacity as Byrne was well into his run on Fantastic Four at the time this piece was published and he had also recently launched Alpha Flight and The Thing as new titles. In short, John Byrne was unrivaled as a creative force in the 1980s and this piece is a fantastic embodiment of his powerful influence and the enduring impact that he had on the Marvel Universe. The full-bleed image is in ink and marker over graphite on 13" x 19" Bristol Board Social/Sharing |

Fantastic piece. I appreciated the different views. It's striking how much fine detail was lost in the published piece.

Yes, the original art is remarkably detailed compared to the original published version and even the re-colored version that was published in the John Byrne Omnibus. I'm definitely thinking about having a new color version done.

The entire Marvel Universe waiting eagerly to see what John would crank out each month. A little bit of ego on John's part? Perhaps. But as the ol' saying goes: "it ain't bragging if it's true!"

He was the man at that point. Everything he touched was the cutting edge of Superhero artwork and this is a ingenious way to put so many characters together wihtout feeling cluttered. This piece could have served as his career retrospective if he had quit right there.

I think he had touched almost every one of Marvel's major titles and characters at this point and I really came to associate Byrne's version of any character as the version of that character. What a treat it was to be a fan in the early 80s!

WOW! What a wonderful piece to add to a mega Byrne fan's collection. All the characters are interacting in character and drawn masterfully in that crazy difficult overhead perspective, yet it looks as it just fell out of John's pen with ease. A heartfelt congratulations to you, I can't imagine how over the moon you must be to be it's caretaker!

This is One of Byrne's Finest works! Period! I have always loved this as well as Golden's take on the Marvel characters. I consider both Equal Grails and have always imagined having one or both❣️🙏🏼
I am satisfied with my Byrne Supes but still have hope that one day....

This piece and Michael Golden's 1982 "Read Marvel Comics And Stand Out In A Crowd" defnitely have similar vibes and both pieces are such great representations of the Marvel Universe during such an amazing period.

And such a nice tip of the hat to the self-portraits done by some of the key Marvel artists back in the day... John Byrne fully deserves to be in such great company!

Byrne really did a great job of capturing the personalities of the characters in this piece and the facial expressions along with the interplay between some of the charters is really fun.
For what it's worth, I've probably spent way too much time staring at the page in search of Ant-Man and still haven't found him or any other hidden characters.

I remember this image well! It's a bit fuzzy, but I could swear I had a color poster or mini-poster of this image hanging on my wall as a kid! Congrats on a killer, museum worthy piece!
