Description
I'm a huge fan of Ed McGuinness' design work and love this initial drawing he did to prepare for the landmark Amazing Spider-Man issue. This is the original character design Ed did for the Sinister Adaptoid character that debuted in Amazing Spider-Man #900 and appeared on his wraparound variant cover for the GIANT 60-page issue!

I love seeing Ed's initial thoughts for the characters and how incorporated elements of each of the Sinister Six to create this large, monstrous character. I can only assume this guy was influenced by the Super Adaptoid that appeared in Avengers #45 in 1967.

#First - so cool, you've really turned me on to the design art thing - forget birth pages, THIS is the birth right here!

You hit the nail on the head right there, Scot! It's cool to own the first page a character has ever appeared on, but I've always found it pretty ridiculous that most collectors are so obsessed with the idea that something isn't quite as special just because "it's not published, though!", that initial preliminary character concept sketches have such a small following, unless it's of Wolverine or someone on that same level. Cool piece, George!

Thought Process! Firstly, I want to acknowledge that McSpidey fan nailed it why this is so cool, and these types of works are so neat to own. You have the thought process of the artist, how they work out design, and the evolution of their idea. Dig it! And these really are where the first appearances happen. Cool stuff from your favorite!

It's a cool design
You can’t go wrong
When the Sinister lingers
The temptation's strong

Cool, Ed art
From twenty two (oh)
Doc Ock lookin' better, baby
Adaptin' through (Mys-ter-i-o, oh)

And I think Electro’s be a Vulture line
'Til Sandman brings me 'round again to find
I'm not Kraven they think I am at home
Oh no, no, no
And this is mash I should have said
Well, I thought it, but I kept it Ed

Stilt-Man. All characters are based on this beast of a character in some way, Tall? STILT-Man. Male? Stilt-MAN. Powerful? STILT-MAN.

SO cool to see that initial unique concept!  He pretty much hit it from the get.  Congrats!
