Original artwork from Detective Comics #485 page 6 (DC, 1979) by the late, great Don Newton (pencils) and his finest finisher Dan Adkins (inks). From Denny O'Neil's classic tale "The Vengeance Vow," wherein Batman seeks to avenge the senseless murder of Kathy Kane, the original Batwoman, at the bloody hands of the evil Sensei, the calculating leader of the League of Assassins. This page features two of the main players of this great story, the Batman and his arch-nemesis Ra's al Ghul, just as Batman regains consciousness after being defeated rather easily at the hands of the Bronze Tiger. Ra's reveals to the Dark Knight detective that Kathy's killers were indeed, the Sensei and his League of Assassins and that it was he that tipped off Batman to the dire danger that Kathy was in. The heated dispute that follows is typical of the ongoing chess match between these two arch-adversaries with Batman refusing any additional aid from Ra's so that he will not have any reason to show mercy when he finally defeats him once and for all. All in all, this is one GREAT page from a GREAT classic story, written by of the the GREATEST Batman writers (O'Neil), and illustrated by one of the GREATEST Batman artists of all time (Newton), and completed by his finest finisher (Adkins).
