Description
Jack Palance unleashed! How fluid is Gentlemen Gene? Oh, so flo. (Apologies for my diction.) And this commission is a HUGE 14x20 inches.

Although I’m more of a DD guy and not much of a commission guy, this piece blows me away. If anyone knows more about the provenance of this commission, please share. The dedication has been erased.

Thanks to Bechara of Nostalgic Investments!

Really nice example of Colan's magic pencil work.  Love the composition and the lighting on Dracula's face.  All the elements in this are great

I just remember that Colan offered these around the early to mid 00's (maybe even earlier) at SDCC or other shows and he did them at home and had it mailed to you.  This was a larger size option.  People also had the option to get it inked by David Guiterrez.

Fantastic piece. One of the best Colan sketches I've seen.

Amazing pencils for a Dracula piece by Gene Colan1 I love looking at the original pencils, you can really see how Gene approached this commission! It's interesting to see how Gene portrayed the creature's face changing and changing until it becomes...Dracula. And pouring from Dracula's mouth are spirits and bats! I can only imagine what the finish must have looked like! Cool pick-up!

Those pencils are flowing through the transformation, but are still incredibly tight. There's so much playfulness with the positioning of the many eyes, and the use of white space and asymmetrical composition just adds to the swirling, horrific scene. Wonderful.
