Description

I put this in my "Marvel characters" gallery. But is this a 'Marvel character'? It was a toy made memorable by Larry Hama during his lengthy stint writing the G.I. Joe tie-in comic book for Marvel in the 1980s. He recently said of those days, "Somewhere in the middle of the first year of the Marvel run, I realized that the core of the story was Snake-Eyes & Scarlett, and that never changed." Several years ago, Hama revived the series for IDW, even continuing where the original numbering for his work left off previously.

Here, Hama puts his pencil to good use drawing instead of writing. I simply said "artist's choice" on his commission list, and he chose one of his favorites. Then I accidentally left the convention before picking it up, forcing Larry to mail it to me. Sorry, Larry!

This piece was chosen as the CAF Highlight for 6/8/23 to accompany an article about Larry Hama. I let Larry know through Facebook, and he was appreciative.

I had trouble categorizing my Snake Eyes sketch too. Marvel or independent? Very cool Larry went with Snake Eyes anyway on an "artist's choice." Finally, congrats on getting the Art Highlight!
