Description
Brawl! A mad scramble by our heroes (some possessed by ancient forces, some acting of their own accord) for the Eye Of Agamotto, smoldering enticingly, even sinisterly - anything but innocently - in the foreground...

I know I’m sounding like a broken record here, but this is yet another page that is a testament to the fantastic action-storytelling choices of Stuart Immonen. This moment would lend itself to any number of effectively dramatic storytelling approaches - it’s “Civil War”, basically (or maybe more “Strident Scrum”…?) - but rather than conveying the drama through an overly busy layout or splashy image, Stuart and Wade lock the camera and impassively spotlight the maguffin of the piece (and the source of all the trouble): the Eye of Agamotto.

As everyone rushes forward to lay claim to the artifact, the camera never waivers - not even to allow the characters to completely fit into the last panel. The fact that they break out of the borders here - all while an embiggened Luke Cage reaches out directly at the reader - ratchets up the sense of urgency and explosive, uncontained action.

(The process junkie in me also loves to see the note and open space at the bottom of the second and third panels :) )

Many, MANY thanks again to Jason at Essential Sequential!

Excellent pick up and the process is indeed real. I particularly like the traditional filmmaker's approach to closing the shots in. Congrats!

There's a brawl in the city
Drawing all of us in fights
There's a brawl in the city
There’s all out brawl page right here

Bring over some of your Immonen pencils
We'll put Grawbadger as the inker and we'll go
Further proof maguffin of Agamotto
Panels to the story down below

Let's dance together just brawl tonight
Let's don't worry about civil war or nothin' else
'Cause just like the comic’s sayin' you gotta take chances
Go ahead just buy it and trust yourself

There's a brawl in the city
Drawing all of us in fights
There's a brawl in the city
Saying everything's gonna be all right

I love the clear storytelling and cinematic feel he gave to the page by making it look like 3 still images from the same moment in a film. Great movement happening here! I love the process too, though can we really say we see the process here, or is this an example of the artist realizing there's no need to go through that process and saving himself a lot of time on his daily deadline? 😅

That is some Manic Marvel Mayhem right there!  Really love the total frenetic feel of these three panels.  Great get!

Enjoying the steady drip of terrific Immonen art. One of the things I've noticed in looking at this piece and the recent Star Wars one, is that Immonen's rendering style doesnt really change from project to project. However, his approach to staging a page and the characters on the page does seem to change from project to project--at least it does to me! Recommend the horror series he recently did with Joe Hill (The Plunge) if you haven't already read.

LOVE Stuart's storytelling and this is a great example. The passage of time shown in each panel is impeccable. Love this, Jason! Congrats!

This is great decompressed storytelling at work from the usually impecable Immonen.

Fun sense of chas as well on this page.

Frenzied mass battle page.  Immonen brings out the inner kid in us as our eyes travel to each participant in this royal rumble...

Love your commentary on this page. I agree with you that by keeping the Eye of Agamotto in the foreground, Immonen rachets up the action that's going on just beyond it. Very cinematic effect. Cool page.

Another example of Immonen being able to do everything!  Total organized chaos here.  Organized in that Immonen organized it.  Chaos in that you think "how could he organize something like this?!  It's too chaotic!"  Another great get, man, with a strong cinematic feel as you move top to bottom.  Congrats!
