Description
John Buscema Silver Surfer #9 Unused Cover Design Preliminary Original Art (Marvel, 1969). The Surfer finds himself in a tight spot with the Flying Dutchman in this loose but exciting cover prelim by the great John Buscema. A shame it wasn't used -- what an exciting scene for a very rare Silver Surfer prelim cover! Graphite on art paper, which has then been affixed to a Bristol backing board. The image area measures 5.5" x 9". In very good condition.
John Buscema Silver Surfer #9 Cover Project (Marvel, 1969).Facing the Flying Dutchman, the Silver Surfer finds himself in a sticky spot in this exciting cover draft from Big John Buscema. Too bad it wasn't published! What an electrifying action scene for one of Big John's very rare Silver Surfer cover projects! Graphite pencil on paper, then glued on a cardboard backing in Bristol. 14 x 23 cm image area. In very good condition.

John Buscema unseen sketches and designs he's done through the years show so much about the artist and his pursuit of perfection.  This is a special one with the vintage, subject matter, and it being a cover.  Surfer showed off what he could express through the human form with the face and body language.  the perspective from this overview is very impressive.

Much better layout than the published cover! As you probobly already know SS #8 was to be another double issue. Due to sagging sales it was split into 2 issues - the 2nd half becoming ish #9 (see pages for #9 on CAF where "8" is inked over and "9" is put in) John rushed back to the drawing board to creat the additional cover
