DescriptionSpider-man vs. Doc Ock (2014), cover/pinup by Michael D. Koch - pen & ink on bristol board - 11x17 in - 2014 About work: My first Marvel cover attempt, i.e. not published, self assigned. This cover fighting Dr Octopus was my first attempt at a Marvel comics cover before I embarked on my cosmic superhero series the Cosmic Survivor. I was trying to learn the aspects of drama, composition and how to color. And I lived in New York City for many years and wanted to bring my own authenticity to the scene from someone who worked all over the city as a designer and has done several NYC cityscape scenes as painter. I found a sketchbook idea of mine I liked an worked up the picture from there. (and yes, I know I gave Doc Ock two more tentacle arms, I liked that effect more, better to climb up buildings!)
