Description

Leonella Nasi (1889-1975) had a long and notable career in the graphic field, both as an illustrator of children and adults books and as a designer of Ex-libris. This Italian artist also collaborated with popular magazines of her era, winning many awards for her remarkable graphic skills.

These two nice pen and ink illustrations (both signed "Leonella" and dated "925") are made on the same A4 sized artboard and they're titled "The Bricklayer and the Apprentice" and "All is Vanity".

I'm more and more fascinated by these illustrators of the first half of the 20th century!

Wow. These are some impressive children's book illustrations. My youth was filled with Curious George and Clifford the Big Red Dog.

I think the bricklayer has the more fulfilling job ;)

Bricklayer would probably fascinate kids more as an occupation. The illustration work brings the subjects to life.

She took the time to make each brick something you wanted to look over. And you can almost feel that it's a father and son team, with the way she seeded subtle details. And her layouts are simple but evocative of emotion and action. Beautiful work.
