I got this sketch @ the SDCC 2006.

As a hardcore fan of Mr. Bolland's work for over 20 years (especially his work on Judge Dredd) it was always a "grail" of mine to have a Judge Dredd piece done by him, so once I heard that Mr. Bolland was going to be attending this year's SDCC I said that there was no way I was going to go home empty handed. Unfortunately, for me, by the time I got over to Mr. Bolland's table in artist alley on Thursday he had already started up a commission list where I ended up being 17th on said list. I checked back periodically to see where I "stood" on the list and by early afternoon on Sunday it looked like it just wasn't going to happen.

Now here's where the story gets good...

Since I was the only person who wanted a Judge Dredd sketch and Mr. Bolland could tell from my conversation(s) with him what a long time and/or desperate fan I am of him and his work he took pity on me and he decided to do my piece for me right then and there. I sat next to Mr. Bolland the entire time he drew my piece which was quite an experience in and of itself. After almost two hours he was satisfied with the piece and so was I, to say the least.

I paid a little more for it than what he was asking for full figure drawings at the convention but as you can tell it was well worth it. I've met a lot of great artists
while attending conventions over the last 20 years but I have rarely met anyone as nice to deal with as Mr. Bolland was, someone who is both a master of his craft
and a heck of a nice guy as well.

This is one of the best sketches Bolland did! Congrats on your perseverance and good luck! Dredd rocks!

The sketchiness of it reminds me of Carlos Ezquerra. Nice art & story.
