Description

The word balloon on the published cover is reminiscent of days gone by. It promises a dramatic and insane turn of events.

If you are familiar with the book you'll notice a difference between this piece and the published cover. On the published cover DC erased the cavern setting which it too bad as it helps set a dark and more dramatic tone imo.

Beaten and bound Batman is about to be beheaded by his son Damien.
The brightness of Damien in the piece is a subtle accent to his emotional state while Batman in the shadows emphasise his dark, helpless mood.
This is a brilliant composition by Robson.
