Description
My middle school art teacher (a wonderful lady) owned a John Byrne original art Superman piece that hung in her classroom for my comic book buddies and myself to covet during all of our art classes. I didn't manage to track down that piece, but never forgetting that experience I totally appreciate this piece all the more. Byrne's Man of Steel and Superman/Action runs will always be my version of Supes. Owning this cover is an honor and a privilege.

Byrne displays such mastery of space and battle action design on this cover that is getting crowded.  He's using arcs to surround Superman and his has to fight out of it with an uppercut to counter it.

Congrats Brad!  I'm a huge Byrne Superman fan - his version is the definitive one for me. So cool that your teacher had an original in school!  I recall there were maybe a couple of versions of this cover - are all the elements on this one original?

The Lois and floating heads are all stats. Do you suspect this isn't the published cover?

Well I know there are two versions of this cover.  The Donneley's have the other.  I think on theirs, the Lois figure is the original.  And there's a different Superman drawing that was unused.

OK, it looks like the Coollines version was the source of the Lois stat, but my cover was the one which was ultimately published. Thanks for pointing that one out, it is interesting to see how it evolved.

Congratulations on acquiring this cover, Brad. With a centered image of a beautifully posed Superman in action, you got yourself a beauty! But I'm even more stunned that the art teacher who owned a Byrne Superman piece in high school was female, given that even today there are barely any females who collect comic art. What a great story, thanks for sharing it!
