Description

Although renowned for sexy heroines (Biancaneve, Lucifera, Naga, Yra) and gorgeous pin-ups, at the height of his artistic maturity Leone Frollo (1931-2018) made all the interiors and the covers for a Sci-Fi monthly series titled "FAN".

Written by Rubino Ventura (pen name of Giuseppe Pederiali, 1937-2013) the series was loosely inspired by the great classics of the genre (mostly "Flash Gordon", "Val�rian & Laureline" and "Jeff Hawke") and perhaps in publisher's intentions it should have take advantage from the outstanding success of the movie "Star Wars".
But unfortunately it lasted only six issues (released between Nov. 1978 and Apr. 1979) plus a special double-sized issue published in July 1979.

This is a nice sequence (pages 16-17) from issue #4 (Feb. 1979), titled "Il Mercenario delle Stelle", in which our heroes, previously shrunken by the "riductor", are trying to escape a "giant" warrior.
It's always great to see Frollo's elegant brushwork, which is completely lost when printed.

Strong story content giving us half splashes! The vertical ones are used well to emphasize height in the first panel and the horizontal one stretches the area in the bottom panel alternating with the closeups.
