Pencil original art by Bob Powell has been painted over by Norman Saunders, who provided art for a few Topps card sets, most notably their collaboration on the iconic Mars Attacks cards in 1962. Card is titled The Penguin's Prey and features incredibly detailed scene showing The Penguin firing his umbrella gun at Batman and Robin, who cling to the blades of a windmill. Artboard was once glued to another board and has since come loose, revealing glue staining on back. This does not affect front's display in any way as art remains clean and Exc. overall. Wonderful example of published Topps card art. 5-1/8x6.75" Bristol board w/graphite preliminary original art by Powell showing art that differs quite a bit from final published card. Top has handwritten note reading "Bob, Redo & Bill Us." Some scattered edge wear but art is Exc. Lot also includes 3.25x4.75" artboard w/pen and ink (w/screentone accents) original art by unknown artist for Spanish edition of this card. Again, art differs significantly, featuring different card layout. Card has batsymbol stat w/card title and stat captions at bottom. Some text stats missing w/glue staining visible, but art remains clean and Exc. Comes w/example of final published card, making this the most comprehensive lot of original art for a single 1966 Batman card that we have come across.
