Joe Pimentel - Dejah Thoris and Sola on Barsoom

Offered here is a commission by the very talented Joe Pimentel. He comes from the Fred Benes studio in Brazil and has offered pieces through eBay for quite some time. I contacted the "agent" for the Benes group and have arranged several commissions.

This one is a large, finished piece of Dejah Thoris, Princess of Mars, portrait of Mars, being held captive by her Thark handmaiden, Sola. Great figure work, amazing background detail. Just as Burroughs described her. "She was as destitute of clothes as the green Martians who accompanied her; indeed, save for her highly wrought ornaments she was entirely naked, nor could any apparel have enhanced the beauty of her perfect and symmetrical figure."

I am always amazed though... and Burroughsfiles correct me... This race is reproduced by eggs placed in an incubator. They aren't mammals. Why breasts?? Artistic license through the years, I suppose.

The piece is done in mixed media (ink, pencil, and colored inks) with an image area of 10.75 x 15.75" on a larger 12 x 17" piece of artist paper. It is signed by Pimentel in the lower left of the image.
