Description

Herb Trimpe, the first artist to ever illustrate Wolverine in a comic book story, created this illustration of the character wearing the outfit he wore in that first story back in 1974, which ran, of course, in Incredible Hulk #180 (cameo) and #181 (full). The original art for the final page of #180, the actual first appearance of the character, sold for over $650,000 several years ago.

This is a FULL SIZE comic art page, with a very large and very tight ink over pencil claws out jumping Wolverine by Herb Trimpe. I have seen a lot of his sketches over the years, and few are as nice, and as large, as this one.

About Wolverine
Wolverine is the most popular comic book character introduced in the past 50 years. His 1974 introduction in Incredible Hulk #180-#181 led to his membership in the mid-70s relaunch of X-Men, which become the most popular comic book of its era and grew to the be the biggest comic book franchise in the history of the medium. Wolverine's portrayal by Hugh Jackman in multiple X-Men movies has turned him into a household name. Now fans are excited to see Wolverine mixing it up with this fellow Marvel heroes on the big screen--let's hope it happens soon!

About the Artist
Herb Trimpe was an underappreciated talent best known for his long run on Incredible Hulk issues #106 through #205, with just a few interruptions. His run included the now legendary introduction of Wolverine in issues #180-182. Trimpe passed away in 2015.
