Description
Offered here is an original painted cover of a Mexican Comic I believe was done by Rafel Gallur (credits on verso of the piece).
I was unfamiliar with Mexican comics until I discovered some of these paintings on eBay. The actual comic books are out of print, and very hard to find. By and large, these images are far more graphically gory and sexual than you would ever find in American comics.
Rafael Gallur began his career assisting Zótico Fonseca and Carlos Mabridis and published his first work in the newspaper La Prensa. He moved to comic books working for the Edar publishing house (later Vid) doing stories for Mini Terror, Mini Aventuras and Mini Policíaras. He also worked for EJEA on Frank Kein, Posesion Diabolica, and Sangre India. Ultimately Gallur decided to focus on cover paintings, among others for Sensacionales de Lucha, Vaqueros, and Maestros under the pseudonym Garr. He has inked jobs for DC and the 'Star Trek' mini-series, but I believe that he is best known for his cover art for the Ghetto Librettos (small Mexican pulp comic books full of sex and violence) by Editorial Mango, like El Pisolero, Guerreros del Ring and Guerreros Del Ring Especiales.
Like Bazaldua, Gallur is considered one of the best and most prolific comic cover artists in Mexico and lists his influences as John Buscema, and Neal Adams.
I am not sure which comic this came from. The image shows three gun-toting women, a blond, a brunette, and a redhead, in front of a graveyard. Each of the women is gorgeous, buxom, and provocatively dressed in tight skirts, pants, and revealing tops. As I said... a bit more sexual than American comics. The painting has an image area of 11.5 x 12.5" on a larger 12 x 13.5" piece of art board. Like most of these covers, the art is not signed. The painting and colors are stunning and the quality is very good... a true bargain in today's art market.
As usual with me, shipping is not included in the price. I prefer checks or money orders (I know... an old dinosaur). If you need to use PayPal, I need payment sent as a gift or Friends and Family. I apologize in advance if that is an inconvenience.
