Description

Pretty illustration by the master, Edwin Austin Abbey, one of the preeminent illustrators of the golden age of illustration. Not sure where this was published, likely a book or magazine from the early 1900s, but I�m looking!

Very astute crosshatch work taking into account of the lighting from the torch. It gets very fine in the work on the face to create a more realistic look.

I just love all the cool illustrations you've been posting. I can't get enough of these timeless examples of great ink drawings. This one, by Edwin Austin Abbey, is especially intriguing to me because I've become quite fascinated by crosshatching and the way artists like Abbey create a sense of light and shadow in simple inkwork. Anyway, thanks for sharing these great examples of illustration!
