DescriptionAlthough this is a beautiful vertical single page as published (with a bold and rather unorthodox layout choice of having Iron Man flying downwards instead of up and to the right), horizontally this thing just -destroys- me (please see additional image). So many things work to the piece’s advantage, compositionally. I absolutely LOVE the perspective and how it moves from the “background noise” of a densely packed (and gorgeous!) cityscape to the powerful, cleanly rendered foreground figure of Iron Man before exploding back into into densely packed lightspeed lines to ultimately achieve hypervelocity. It’s all thanks to the fantastic use of the boot jet thrusters and the sonic boom nimbus as pure white dollops of negative space to pop the armor out and achieve separation from the rest of the image. Just… wow. Wow!! A thing of unbelievable beauty, especially at its majestic 13" x 19.5" size. Thank you -SO- much for the trade, Andrew! Social/Sharing |

Love the background detail on this. It's easy to focus on Iron Man rocketing forwarded and miss the intricate work beneath IM's boots. Fantastic stuff.

Blast off! I love the angle, and how Marquez has him taking off like a space shuttle. Great angle! And the energy of the Mach ring with the motion lines is perfect. And the cityscape! Great piece, Jason!

My kind of splash - Graphic and detailed! Great call on the side tip and congrats on adding this wonderful depiction of Iron Man in all his techno glory!

Great building background with extreme perspective. Love the use of negative space on the power thrust! Sweet splash!

I love your descriptions as much as the art! There's definitely a fusion of motion/velocity effects here that shape a harmonious whole for our erstwhile tech wunderkind.

I didn't read Bendis' run but I saw plenty of examples of Marquez's art on the book while flipping through it in the Unlimited app. I really like how he opted to balance the sleek AND the angular in the armor design. Oh, and this is the way you SHOULD look at the page.

Oooh, ooh, ooh, oooh While glancing thru the pages of a dealer.
Perusing art that’s new.
I saw an ad with a Marquez for a Tony Stark, it sounded too good sonic boom.
Need an Iron Man or maybe trade art for love, it’s so easy Andrew.
I laughed when I read the last line, It said Glen I thank you.
Then suddenly, the thought chilled my blood.
One more for the Tony Stark club. I just wanna have one more.

(By the power of the spiraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaal!
Hum, sorry, wrong franchise?)
There it is, finally! :)
Super impressive splash that packs quite the visual punch. That it can be displayed at different angles is proof how well composed an illusration this is. And yes it works better horizontally.
Huge congrats, Jason.

This is absolutely phenomenal!! It is an Iron Man splash that absolutely slays me too! And as I read your description, I found myself saying "Yes exactly! That is SO right! Amen to that!" So yeah, everything you said goes double for me. Major congrats!!

Oh yeah! The issue 1 prime image of the...Model Prime armor :) I remember first seeing this and loving the simplicity of the design as far as the rendering, and how it can get much less so when it morphs. Plus, like here, there's a great contrast between the armor and the detailed backgrounds, like the city here, moving further and further away. That depth! Same principle works with the ring vs the exploding lines around it - contrast, baby. And I didn't realize it was oversized! Niiiiice. Congrats, man!
