Description

John H. Striebel - Dixie Dugan Daily Comic Strip (McNaught Syndicate, 1932).
An early Dixie Dugan, rich with fashionable haircuts and clever narrative. Ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 20.25" x 5".

Dixie Dugan è un personaggio appartenente al filone delle cosiddette “girl strip”, molto popolare tra gli anni 30/40, questo genere è stato il precursore delle soap opera. Il caratteristico volto con capelli a caschetto di D.Dugan è quello dell’attrice Louise Brooks, famosissima negli anni ’20. Lo stesso volto fu adottato da Guido Crepax per la sua Valentina che non a caso nel 1982 interpreterà proprio il ruolo di Dixie Dugan in una breve avventura pubblicata nei Glamour Book. Bellissima strip! E si stenta a credere che abbia più di 90 anni: il tratto e lo stile di Striebel hanno una modernità sorprendente!

Done during the Great Drepression and with the letter talking about phony stocks, the strip sure hits harder.
