Batman 413 p 13 - Dwyer and McLeod

I'm not a huge Batman guy. For some reason, though, I got this issue off the stands and loved it. I didn't know it was Dwyer's debut issue but thought the clean style was both classic and something a little different than what was on the stands. I now recognize that Kieron was heavily influenced in the issue by Byrne and that McLeod's inks likely dictated a lot of the final product. I also loved the story. Several pages from the issue went up for sale at Heritage early this year. I feel really lucky to have gotten this one. This is the Batman that most interests me - imposing, controlled. civilized. It was the polar opposite of what Miller had been doing the year before. And that aesthetic carries through in this scene (and in Yoshio too). Obviously, Dwyer evolved his style over the years but this is a hard to beat debut.
