Fone and Phoney Bone Illustration for a 1986 Lantern news article

This was a small illustration of Fone and Phoney done for an article about past Ohio State cartoonists (published in the Oasis section of The Lantern on April 3, 1986). I bought it from Scot Zellman who did a strip called Potshots that was often featured alongside Thorn in Jeff’s final year at OSU. Scot drew one of the characters from this strip peering down on Fone and Phoney shortly after Jeff finished his work on the Bone cousins. Scot says it “got a chuckle out of Jeff”.

Mr. Smith penciled and inked this on an 11” by 17” Bristol board. The additional image shows how the illustration was incorporated into the article.
