DescriptionRecalling the “hot rod” days of Johnny Storm, the Torch participates in a road race and is kidnapped in a staged car accident. The 4-page sequence is an excellent example of Byrne’s storytelling of casual events. The plot in this 2-issue story is a spirited jab at Neal Adams’ notion that continental drift is not due to plate tectonics, but to an expansion of the planet’s volume. The big bad in the story, Alden Mass, who is motivated by these beliefs, wants to use the Torch’s powers to restore the balance and prevent this expansion. “Alden Mass” is an anagram of “Neal Adams.”Social/Sharing |
