Description

Recalling the �hot rod� days of Johnny Storm, the Torch participates in a road race and is kidnapped in a staged car accident. The 4-page sequence is an excellent example of Byrne�s storytelling of casual events. The plot in this 2-issue story is a spirited jab at Neal Adams� notion that continental drift is not due to plate tectonics, but to an expansion of the planet�s volume. The big bad in the story, Alden Mass, who is motivated by these beliefs, wants to use the Torch�s powers to restore the balance and prevent this expansion. �Alden Mass� is an anagram of �Neal Adams.�
