DescriptionSee the gallery front page for an explanation of this issue's significance. On these pages, Supergirl uses her newly revealed (and quickly forgotten) telepathic powers to learn what happened to a comatose girl. She was lured to the rites of some KKK-looking cultists, and one look at their master's face sends her into shock. Sekowsky is diving deep into EC Comics territory here. Heavy blacks predominate, to a degree unthinkable even a single issue before; go compare the tonal shift from Schaffenberg's more innocent work. Most of the faces here were whited out and redrawn for maximum effect. The orange tones of the first two tiers demonstrate the candle-lit nature of the scene. Social/Sharing |

The arrivl of Skeowsky definitely made this title edgier than ever with contemporary themes of horror as the Comics Code loosened up for the new decade. You would never see this kind of psychologically moody art with Schaffenberger or Swan.
